My Guild Wars History…(part 3)

Silva Shin

Previously in My Guild Wars History…

  • DKN underwent a complete restructure
  • I was promoted to Officer
  • Obtained the 60K armour
  • Defeated the mysterious Optical Spectre

The time had come, it had been announced a while back, but Factions was finally out! We were all so excited and the atmosphere within the guild was electric. Everyone at DKN was planning on starting a new character with one of the new professions; The stealthy Assassin and the summoning Ritualist. The question on everyone lips was who was going to make what. In all fairness I couldn’t decide. I loved the look of the Assassin and I’ve always had a love for the more stealthy approach. However, there is also something about being able to summon spirits that really appealed to me this time round (I personally blame Yuna from Final Fantasy X). But alas, I finally settled and made myself a new Assassin named Jutei Daichi. I found getting used to being so close range strange after playing as Lord Levan for so long, but the shadow stepping was awesome. So on we got with the game, all of us a mix of the new Professions…. This quickly became a problem. We started to find some of the content a little difficult with only the two Professions (and more of us being Assassins than the healing Ritualists). So I decided I wanted something different until the whole Assassin rush had died down. So I created Silva Shin.

Silva was my monk. I usually always hated the “healing” class in games. But I had decided it was finally time I took a step out of my comfort zone and played the profession I liked the least. Turns out I was wrong, Monks are kick ass! Not to mention I was loved by the rest of the Guild as everyone wanted help because Monks had now become somewhat of a rarity within the Death Knights. My aim with Silva became aimed at simply completing the campaign. I played all the missions getting as many of those high end mission rewards as I could. And when offered the choice between the sea loving Luxons and the forest dwelling Kurzicks, I went Kurzick. I will admit my choice was based on the look of the elite Kurzick armour, but I vowed to go back and complete the Luxon side of the game with Lord Levan when I could get round to it. Storming through the game with DKN was easy, especially now that some people had decided to revert to the older six Professions. With a balanced team we managed to reach the end of the game within a couple of weeks.

It was then that it hit me… Lothar had been going on about a certain Spiteful Spirit and 55HP Monk build. So I enquired further, finding that this happened to be the most efficient way to earn money in the game at the time. I did my research and got my money and materials together to get the appropriate armour. Then along came the steep learning curve required to take on the Underworld… I’m not going to lie here; the Underworld scared me half to death. All the creatures were so powerful and I was running around with only 55HP! Not to mention all the buffs that I had to maintain throughout the run. Slowly we began to learn, picking up the tactics and memorizing the location of all the different creatures. It was nice to see the fruits of our labour when the Ectoplasms started to drop. It was also nice to see the cash that those Ecto’s started to rake in! I was loaded!!!

Amber Chunk

My final achievement with Silva was the armour, the Elite Kurzick Armour. I had been lusting after the armour since I first had to make the choice between the two factions. By this time I had a fair amount of coin in my pockets so off I went to pick up the armour. That was until I was halted in my tracks by the sheer volume of Amber required… These things weren’t cheap! Ranging from 800 gold to 1 platinum 400 gold. It took nearly all my Ecto-money away and I only had just over half of the amount I needed. I was really going to have to get to work. I got all the deals I could here and there, even farming the faction points to buy from the vendors. The goal seemed so close yet again, but it also seemed so far away. It was the Elite Flameforged Armour all over again. After a couple more weeks earning and spending, I finally managed to obtain all the Amber that I needed for the armour and with a final few small donations from my beloved guild members I had it. The Elite Kurzick Armour was mine. After dying the armour gold I had decided that was it, I had completed Factions with my Monk.

Now it was time for Lord Levan to arrive in Cantha
