My Guild Wars History… (part 2)

Mesmer

Optical Spectre

Previously in My Guild Wars History…

  • Started my adventures in Tyria as the Elementalist…. Lord Levan
  • Developed a deep loathing for all Charr
  • Met up with friends from real life In-game
  • Joined the guild Black Death Knights (DKN)

It was a couple of months after starting playing the game, and after hitting that inevitable level 20, that things started to develop in the DKN camp. There were rumours starting to fly that the guild was looking to appoint a new officer as we were rapidly growing in size (yes the position of officer was a big thing in my guild.) And even better, the rumour was that it was between Lothar The Evil and me! I was over the moon, except for the fact that Lothar had been in the guild much longer than I had been and had therefore had more time to get to know our leader and the other “higher ups”. Then they announced it as an official guild update. I was the new officer! I was amazed and speechless… I was convinced the other way. It goes without saying that Lothar was furious, and he was more than happy to express his feelings with the “higher ups”. But his words fell on deaf ears. I was taken aside and given my duties (again, yes we were that serious back then, I was only 15 for heaven’s sake…) Then they dropped another bomb shell,

Lord Cooper was leaving the guild! In fact he wasn’t just leaving the guild he was quitting Guild Wars for an extended period of time. This meant we needed a new guild leader, and Lord Devenish was quickly promoted to the role. And that was in the now restructured Black Death Knights got back to business.

I at this point was getting close to the Ring of Fire islands and the last couple of missions in the game. It was time to go for that ultimate aesthetic upgrade. The legendary 60K armour. Time to start saving, money, materials, everything I would need to get my hands on the Elite Flameforged Armour. This seemed an impossible task at the start, but I had help. Not donations mind you, just help on runs and farming areas. This is where I picked up what I considered to be the ultimate Pyromancer build. The Heavy Nuker Build. After weeks of farming rubbish off of fallen Ettins and killing millions of Hydras, I managed to get the cash and the materials together. It was time. I headed to Granite Citadel, and bought my armour. I remember seeing myself in the armour for the first time and thinking “holy s*** I’m cool.”

As a distraction from the usual gameplay, we used to hold friendly tournaments within the guild. This involved pulling names from a hat and going for the best of three rounds. I’m not afraid to say that I owned this. Switching between my best Aeromancer and Geomancer builds, I was defeating everyone. That is until the mysterious Mesmer Optical Spectre turned up. Great I thought a Mesmer is an Elementalist’s worst nightmare, however I was still confident… that was until I got trounced… I got my ass handed to me on a silver platter. I ran with my tail between my legs, but vowed that I would come back and defeat Optical Spectre and claim my guild title back. I spent ages, going over every build I could. I began testing as many different skill combinations as possible to stop his energy denial, health draining and interrupts. Then it hit me. I finally settled on an Earth build, however, I needed an elite skill. I needed Obsidian Flesh. I quickly found the skills locations and went to complete the capture to complete my build. Time for the rematch… I challenged Optical Spectre to a 1 on 1 match, best of three. I handed his ass to him! He couldn’t touch me. Obsidian Flesh stopped all of his spells, along with my Arcane Echo ability I was invincible to him. I reclaimed my crown and that was that.
